How it is calculated
A step-up SIP raises the monthly amount once a year, usually in line with a pay rise. Because more money goes in every year, the total can grow much faster than a flat SIP.
How it is worked out: the monthly amount goes up by the step-up % at the start of each new year; every instalment then grows at the yearly rate ÷ 12 per month.
Example: ₹5,000 a month, raised 10% each year, for 10 years at an assumed 12%: you put in about ₹9.6 lakh and the estimate is about ₹16.6 lakh, versus about ₹11.6 lakh for a flat ₹5,000 SIP.
