Goal planner (SIP needed)
Find the monthly SIP needed to reach a target amount. Free goal planner. Enter a target amount, years and an assumed return to see the monthly SIP that could reach it, with the formula explained.
Example with the starting values
- Target amount: ₹10,00,000
- Expected return rate (p.a.): 12%
- Time period: 10 years
Result:
- Monthly SIP needed: ₹4,304
- Invested amount: ₹5,16,487
- Est. returns: ₹4,83,513
How it is calculated
The goal planner works the SIP formula backwards: you choose the amount you want and the time you have, and it shows the monthly SIP that would get there at the rate you assume.
Formula: P = FV × i ÷ [((1 + i)n − 1) × (1 + i)], where FV is the target, i is the yearly rate ÷ 12 and n is the number of months.
Example: ₹10 lakh in 10 years at an assumed 12% needs about ₹4,300 a month. Prices rise over time, so a goal 10 years away may need a bigger target (try the inflation calculator).
Learn the idea behind it
For learning only. The rate is an assumption you choose, not a promise or prediction. Real returns change, investments can lose money, and tax, charges and inflation are not included. This is not investment advice.
