How it is calculated
A fixed deposit (FD) keeps money with a bank for a fixed time at a fixed interest rate. Most bank FDs in India add interest every quarter, so interest also earns interest.
Formula: A = P × (1 + r ÷ 4)4t, where P is the deposit, r is the yearly rate and t is the number of years.
Example: ₹1,00,000 for 5 years at 7% a year gives about ₹1,41,478. FD interest is taxable and banks may deduct TDS; tax is not included here. Check your bank's actual rate.
