How it is calculated
A SIP (systematic investment plan) puts the same amount into a mutual fund every month. Each instalment grows for the months it stays invested, so early instalments grow the longest.
Formula: FV = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i is the yearly rate ÷ 12 and n is the number of months (money goes in at the start of each month).
Example: ₹5,000 a month for 10 years at an assumed 12% a year: you put in ₹6,00,000 and the estimate is about ₹11.6 lakh. Real mutual fund returns go up and down; they are never fixed.
Learn the idea behind it
For learning only. The rate is an assumption you choose, not a promise or prediction. Real returns change, investments can lose money, and tax, charges and inflation are not included. This is not investment advice.
