Example with the starting values

  • Total investment: ₹1,00,000
  • Expected return rate (p.a.): 12%
  • Time period: 10 years

Result:

  • Invested amount: ₹1,00,000
  • Est. returns: ₹2,10,585
  • Total value: ₹3,10,585

How it is calculated

A lump sum is money invested once and left to grow. Each year's growth is added to the amount, and the next year grows on the bigger total. This is compounding.

Formula: FV = P × (1 + r)t, where P is the amount, r is the yearly rate and t is the number of years.

Example: ₹1,00,000 for 10 years at an assumed 12% a year grows to about ₹3.1 lakh. At 7% it would be about ₹1.97 lakh: a small change in the rate makes a big difference over long periods.

Learn the idea behind it

For learning only. The rate is an assumption you choose, not a promise or prediction. Real returns change, investments can lose money, and tax, charges and inflation are not included. This is not investment advice.
